How do You Learn? Group 3

How do you think you learn? Do you learn by listening or reading? Do you need to write things down before you remember something? How do you remember the code for the school? Do you remember the numbers once you have heard them or do you need to write it down? Or do youi type it in and remember how it looks on the keyboard? Tell me how you think you learn best and give me examples of why you think this is the best way you learn.

The best way that I learn is by the teacher talking while looking at a book or a piece of evidence. I think I learn this way the best because I can look at what the teacher is talking about. I think this is better than just a teacher talking because it helps you understand what you are talking about more. If a teacher just stands and talks I will not take it in as well. I think it is better that the teacher reads it out at the same time as you reading it because they can explain what each thing means in more detail. Also when I am doing studying I have to write some things down. When I need to remember a large set of instructions or directions I need to write it down.

The best way I learn is with a book in front of me as well as the teacher talking about it .I feel that this works a lot better as the book gives you the basic structure of the subject and at the same time you are being fed some interesting information from the teacher therefore you are not bored stiff by the teacher blabbing on about something you have never heard about .I can also learn codes such as spelling, I remember the pattern of words and what the word looks like , some can be really frustrating so I sometimes write it down a couple of time .I remember sets of numbers by shapes such as 2 4 6 8 on a calculator is the shape of a cross. I can sometimes learn just by listening but most of the time I just like to read to get it into my head.
When the code gets changed I write it down look at it and say it
Until I can remember it well
I also can learn by the teacher telling you things and reading to you. Alex

I think I learn by listening to my teacher but also taking part in the discussions we have in class. I think it is easier to learn when listening but I also thing that some things have to be explained. Usually I just remember things in my head instead of having to write them down unless someone is giving us instructions and they’re quite long. I usually remember the school code by remembering the numbers or thinking about the buttons that I should press. I think I learn best by having class discussions on the topic we are doing and listening to someone talking about it. I also think it is important that we get some things explained to us if we don’t understand what they mean. Lana

I learn by reading things like book and the newspaper. I can learn sometimes by listening but sometimes it goes in one ear and out the other. Sometimes in the choir we have to learn words to a song and I read the words to the song I usually remember all the words but sometimes I do not remember them all.

The way I learn is sometimes if a teacher talks for more then five minutes I usually forget what she/he has said but if I read it on a computer and then write it down and read over it a couple of times then I think it’s a lot easier just like if I am looking up a meaning in a dictionary I have to write it down to get myself to memorise the meaning. Also the way I do my spelling for instance I have to get my parents to tell me to write the word and I would write the word down and then I would say it aloud at the same time. So basically the way I learn is having to write something down a few times or if I see something written on a board.

I think I learn by reading because that is how I revise for a test I read through my folder then I get my Mum or Dad to ask me questions on the subject that I am studying. I don’t think I learn that well by listening because I can switch off easily. I learn my spelling by getting my Mum or Dad to ask me the word and I write it down and say it out loud. I think I find reading easier because I have something to look at and I am not just staring into space, and I find it less easy to get distracted. Kerry

I think I learn best when I am either listening really well to my teacher but sometimes I have to write something down. Out of those two things I think I probably learn better by writing something down because when I’m revising for a test it helps if I write the information down I seem to remember it a lot better. But if I’m in the classroom and the teacher is telling me instructions I listen well and I remember the instructions. It’s the same with spelling I need to write down the word to remember how to spell it. In choir because we have been practicing a lot I just remember the words because I’m singing it so many times. If someone was giving me directions I would normally need to write the directions down unless there isn’t too many. Lucy

The best way that I learn is by reading something because I find it easier to picture it in my brain .but it does help if I write it down sometimes as well. Callum

I think I learn by writing things down because when I do I seem to remember it a lot better as when I hear it I can’t really remember it. I like when I write it down because it gives me time to read over it as when people say something I can’t read over it so it can’t be stored in my brain.

I think the best way I remember things is by memorising how it looks. I remember my place in a book by memorising what the numbers look like. I can also remember where things are because I write notes to help me to look for them. If I can’t remember my quota I break the words down and remember a few at a time. I can sometimes remember a few numbers. Fionnlagh

I don’t think I learn just in one way , for example , passwords and codes usually stay in my head as soon as I’m told them . For maths and language I remember more things if I’m told them and then I get a sheet to remind myself of what we’ve been learning about .I read a lot of books ,so, I find spelling easy . I prefer worksheets for Science, Geography and History too. When I’m revising I find it easier to read over sheets that I’ve completed in class. If I’m learning a piece of music I find it best to just play the tune over and over again. Sarah

I think I learn better when I read, because I can see how the words are spelt and it makes it easier to expand my vocabulary. It also helps me pronounce the words, and if I don’t know what they mean I can look them up in the dictionary. I can also see how other people say the words that I don’t know how to pronounce.

I think that having something in front of you or on the board and the teacher is explaining it to you is better for me but sometimes listening is also good as well .But one time a teacher was explaining a subject to me and the class and I didn’t really understand what she was meaning. If my teacher told the class the new code and I went up to a door and I forgot it so I would ask someone or I would revise it over in my head and also write it in my diary so I remember it the next time.

I learn in many different ways such as reading or listening. I like reading factual books that is how I do most of my leaning. Although I write down my words for spelling, I can remember little things like two numbers.

The best way I learn is by writing it on a peace of paper because I do not remember things that well and if there is something I do not understand I do not understand then I can learn more about it at home. The most I can remember is about 6 numbers. Cameron

I learn best by having the teacher explaining what we are doing plus having something to back it up such as writing or being able to talk to friends to back up what I am thinking and if I am stuck on a detail then I can ask what she means.
